Habitat
for Humanity International - Options for avoiding
foreclosure
For many years, Habitat for Humanity
International has been one of the driving forces in providing
shelter to people all over the world. This organization is
quite unique because it operates purely on voluntary labor.
Also, the homes are sold at no profit whatsoever -- the
lucky new homeowners of the Habitat for Humanity homes are only
charged for the cost of materials used in building the
house.
However, not everyone who wants a Habitat for Humanity home
gets one. The organization only chooses those that are able to
pay their mortgage responsibly and are willing to contribute
their time and efforts to the cause of the group.
Recipients of Habitat for Humanity International
homes are expected to do their share in one way
or another in the building of more homes for other members of
the community.
In addition to manual labor, the new homeowners will
actually be partially funding future homes because their
mortgage payments go straight into the house-building funds of
the organization. They will also sign a contract stating that
in case they wish to sell back their home to Habitat for
Humanity International before completion of their payments,
they will do so at a price equal only to the cost of materials
used.
About
habitat for humanity
Although Habitat for Humanity homes within the US are
totally profit-free, some of these houses may come with a
modest interest in other countries.
Founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976, Habitat for
Humanity International has been giving people homes for
more than three decades now. What started as a partnership
housing venture in a small town in Georgia has now
evolved into a global quest to improve the lives of people all
over the world.
Habitat for
Humanity International helps to avoid
foreclosure
One of the great things about Habitat for Humanity
International is that they do not just give people homes --
they also help them keep it by teaching them ways to avoid
foreclosure.
The Habitat for Humanity Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention
Program is available for all people who are having difficulties
with paying the mortgage on their Habitat for Humanity homes.
All sorts of services, from counseling to financial assistance,
can be availed at Habitat for Humanity
International offices in dozens of cities around the
globe.
In the housing community, it is common knowledge that the
prevention of foreclosure is much more feasible for everyone
involved, rather than actually going through with the
foreclosure process.
For the homeowner, this means that they will not have a
record of a foreclosure on their permanent files. For the
community, this will prevent a drop in the market value of the
house and the neighborhood.
Habitat
for Humanity International does everything it can to prevent
foreclosures from taking place but there are still a few
rare instances when there is no other choice. However, these
instances only happen when the owner fails to make the
mortgage payment for several consecutive months to Habitat
for Humanity International.
